Why can't I delete files from the M4804 MP3 player? |
You can delete files on the player using your computer.
- Connect the player to your computer.
- Open the player in Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder containing the files.
- Select the files you want to remove and then press the Delete key on the keyboard of your PC.
- For deleting files from the player, refer to Option menu from page 17-29 for details.
- For deleting files using easyRip, click the Help module on easyRip’s Module Dock.

Why can't I connect My M4804 to my computer?
Why won't my computer recognize my M4804?
|
- Make sure your player is in MSC mode.
- Try connecting the player to another USB port on the computer to see if it is recognized
- Make sure your computer complies with the system requirements for the M4804:
- Pentium III 500MHz or higher recommended
- Windows® XP (service pack 1 or higher) or Windows Vista™ or Windows® 7
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher with Internet access
- Windows Media Player 10 or higher
- 250MB or more free hard disk space for the software
- 128MB RAM (256MB recommended)
- CD-ROM drive capable of digital audio extraction
- USB port (2.0 recommended)
- Sound card

Why does the M4804 MP3 player repeat the same tracks or all tracks? |
- Repeat play is turned on. Press Menu during playback to show the Option menu and select Repeat Off.
- You can also press Return to return to the Home menu. Then select Settings and press Play/Pause to enter the settings menu to select Repeat Off.

Why is the audio distorted at high volumes on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- Change the equalizer mode to Flat.
- Turn down the volume.

Why do the audio tracks on the M4804 MP3 player keep skipping or popping? |
- You'll need to re-record the audio track - make sure you close all other applications on your PC when you record.
- Try recording with Error Correction setting turned on.

Why does the M4804 MP3 player turn itself off? |
- Your player turns itself off if you leave it in pause mode or navigation mode for the duration specified in PowerSave setting.

Why can't I turn the M4804 MP3 player on?

- Battery is empty, please recharge.
- Ensure the Power/Lock slider is not in the Lock position.
- Reset the player by pressing the RESET button on the back of the player with a non-metal pointed object (e.g. toothpick).

Why doesn't the M4804 MP3 player respond to any key presses? |
- Make sure the lock function is not activated.
- If the player stops operating properly, you can reset it by pressing the RESET button on the back of the player with a non-metal pointed object (e.g. toothpick).
- This player may temporarily cease to function if subjected to electrostatic disturbance. To resume normal operation, it may be necessary to cycle the power off and back on or you can reset it by pressing the RESET button on the back of the player with a non-metal pointed object (e.g. toothpick).

Why won't the M4804 MP3 player play WMA songs? |
- Secure music download files must be transferred to your player through the Windows Media Player on the application recommended by your online music download service.
Note: Services and applications must be Windows Media audio-compliant and support Digital Rights Management. Apple iTunes music content is not supported.
- The player must be in MTP mode for Digital Rights Management content transfer. Refer to page 31 for instruction on how to change Protocol modes.

Why is the M4804 MP3 player taking a long time to read files in a folder? |
- File reading may take longer if too many files are put in a single folder. Re-organize your files into a number of folders.

Why isn't the song information showing correctly on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- Song information may not match your current player's language setting. change the language setting.

Why can't I view picture files on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- The player only supports .jpg file extensions and does not support such formats as .bmp, .tiff, .jpeg, etc.
- Photo files must be transferred to the "Photo" folder in the player through MSC connection for proper playback.

Why can't I play video files on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- All video files must be converted by RCA easyRip software. Your PC must be able to play the video file in Windows Media Player to ensure the proper codecs are installed for video conversion.

Why can't I play audible files on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- The player only supports .AAX (Enhanced) Audible files. Audible files must be transferred to the Audible folder in the player through MSC connection for proper playback. It is recommended to use the Audible Manager software to transfer Audible files.

Why does the M4804 MP3 player keep saying that the reports are full? |
- The internal memory of the player has been filled to capacity.
- You have exceeded the maximum number of files (1,999) supported by the player.
- The maximum folder depth is 8 folders.

Why can't I play back tracks on the M4804 MP3 player? |
- Make sure audio tracks are encoded in the mp3 or Windows Media formats at supported bitrates.
- Bitrates support by the player:
mp3 – 32 to 320 kbps wma – 48 to 192 kbps
- WMA files may be DRM protected and this player does not support playback of protected files.
- Check the website and/or application help system of the music download service provider from where the content was purchased from for license acquisition details. For more information on how license acquisition works, go to www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia/drm.

Why won't the M4804 MP3 player play back songs downloaded from my paid Music Server Provider subscription service? |
- The internal clock in your portable player may not be up to date. Downloading a new subscription song from your Music Server Provider should update your player's clock and allow it to playback all your songs again.
- The license for your subscription songs may have expired. Synchronize your device with your PC again to obtain an update to your license. If the problem persists, please contact your Music Service Provider for additional support.

Why won't the M4804 MP3 player transfer subscription music content to the player? |
- The player must be in MTP mode for subscription content transfer. Refer to page 31 for instruction on how to change Protocol modes.

Why does voice recording stop automatically after 5 hours on my M4804 MP3? |
- Maximum duration for each recording is 5 hours. Start a new recording after the maximum duration has been reached.

What is MTP mode on my M4804 MP3 player? |
- MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode is essential if you want to transfer DRM10 content to your player. In MTP mode your player will no longer show up as a driver letter, so programs that were designed to work with a player that shows up as a drive letter will not be able to work directly with the player.

Why can't I launch the RCA easyRip installer stored in the M4804 MP3 player to install easyRip on my PC? |
- The player must be in MSC mode to run the RCA easyRip installer from the player. You can change modes by selecting Protocol in the Settings menu.

Why can't I find the content in my computer after I have connected the M4804 to it? |
- Contents copied into the Player in MSC mode can only be found in MSC mode when connected to computer. If player is switched to MTP mode, these contents will not be displayed.
- Select MTP mode under Protocol in the Settings menu in the player to view the content in computer. (Same case for other case, if content copied to Player in MSC mode, player must in MSC mode when connected to computer to view the content).

How do I format the M4804? |
- Perform a format to remove all data from player (Home => Settings => Format).
IMPORTANT: Backup your media before formatting the player!

Why won't the M4804 MP3 player start voice recording or FM recording? |
- Make sure the memory is not full. If the memory on the player is full, please remove a few files from the player and try recording again.
- The player battery level may be too low. Recharge the player before attempting to record again.

Why doesn't my PC detect the M4804 MP3 player after connecting it via USB? |
- Try a different USB port on the PC.
- If connecting through a USB hub, remove the hub and directly connect to the PC.
- If using an extension USB cable, remove the extension cable and directly connect to the PC.
- Stop playback on the player before connecting it to the PC.
- The power supply of the USB port might be marginal; removing some devices from the USB ports may help. Or you can try a USB hub with external power supply.

Why won't the M4804 MP3 player charge when connected to my computer? |
- Make sure the USB cable is securely connected to both the PC and the player. The PC must be turned on to charge the player.
- Make sure the AC/DC adapter is connected to a working AC outlet and the USB plug is secured connected to the player.
- If the environment temperature is too high, the player will stop charging. Move the player away from the heat source and allow the player to cool before charging again.

Why won't media files on the M4804 MP3 player show up on the display? |
- The maximum amount of files may be reached, try removing any unnecessary files on the player.

Why doesn't the M4804 MP3 player start playback after pressing the Play button? |
- If you do not have a media item selected for playback, pressing the Play button will navigate one level down or toggle the selection. Be sure to select a song, photo or video before pressing play.

Why won't my PC boot up while the M4804 MP3 player is connected via USB? |
- There might be a conflict between the PC and the player, unplug the player from the computers USB port before turning on PC.

Why can I only record easyRip™ video or audio for certain lengths of time on my M4804? |
- These restrictions were put in place to ensure that recorded audio and video files would be limited in size to ensure they would not occupy too much space on your digital media device, allowing you to maximize the amount of diverse media you can have on your device.
- Maximum record durations can be changed in the Recorder Preferences.

To play audiobooks on your player, you must have first downloaded and activated the Audible Download Manager software.

- Click on the RCA EasyRip icon to launch the RCA EasyRip Module Dock.

- Click on 'Start' and select 'All Programs.'
- Select 'RCA Detective,' then click on the 'RCA Detective' displayed with the icon.
- Right-click on the RCA Detective icon in the taskbar.
