Questions Asked by Other Customers about the RCA ANT585 Antenna
|
Why am I having reception problems with the RCA ANT585? |
- Reception quality depends on your location and the signal strength being sent by the broadcast stations, and is affected by obstructions like mountains, trees, buildings, walls, metal objects/surfaces, other electronic devices that may cause interference, etc. Just like any other antenna (whether indoor or outdoor), it is still advisable to experiment on the location and positions of the antenna to check for the best reception possible.
- Also make sure to do a channel search on your TV or converter box after getting a good position on the antenna.
- Also keep in mind that not all channels will show good reception on a single position, on certain instances you have to do minor adjustments on the antenna for some channels.
- You may opt to purchase a separate signal amplifier from local dealers like Walmart, Target, Radioshack and Bestbuy but please take note also that amplification is not a guarantee that you will get better reception.
- If your antenna has a selector knob...
This selector lets you fine tune your antenna to improve reception further. Once you've found the best positions for the dipoles and UHF loop, find the selector position that gives you the best picture.
- There are instances that reception is better without amplification..

I have a converter box on my TV and I am only getting UHF signals only when set to "Video", how do I get VHF as well? |
- It seems you have connected your converter box to the TV using AV cables that's why you need to set TV to "Video", no problem with that. And you just need to plug in the antenna to the converter box and experiment with positions/locations for best reception. Also you need to rescan for channels on your converter box.
- Please check your converter box manual or contact it's customer service on how to program the channels into it.

I have a cable ready TV. Why am I not getting any channels above 13 using the RCA ANT585? |
- The tuners inside of cable ready TVs have two modes. One mode is for cable and the other mode is for antenna. When the TV is in cable mode, and you are using an antenna, you will not be able to receive any channels above 13. To fix this, simply access the menu of your TV and switch the TV from Cable/CATV mode to ANT/AIR mode.
|
Is the RCA ANT585 antenna sitting on a metal surface (like a metal stand)? |
- Move it to a non-metal surface (metal interferes with reception). Then, re-scan for channels on your TV or digital TV converter box
- Any large metal objects will prevent the antenna signal from reaching the antenna.
You must place the antenna outside of or above a metal cabinet.
