Setting date and time
With the date and time set, you can always view the date and time of your recordings. Normal recording is still possible without setting the date and time. However, no correct recording date and time can be referenced in your recorded messages.
To set the date and time:
- While in stop mode, press MENU to access the Settings menu.
- Press <</>> to select DATE+TIME and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to select SET TIME, SET DATE or TIME FORMATand press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to select hour, minute, AM/PM, month, day and year. Press <</>> to adjust the value and then pressPLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.

Basic operations
Selecting folders and files:
- While in stop mode, press FOLDER and then press <</>> to select folder.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to select files and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection. Press <</>> to skip to the previous/next file.
Basic playback:
To play back recorded files:
- Select a folder and a file.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to start playback.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to pause playback, press again to resume.
- You can press - Volume + to adjust volume.
- While in stop mode or during playback, press Play Speed to select different playback speeds. Options are SLOW, NORMAL, and FAST.
- Press <</>> once to skip to the previous/next file. Press and hold / to fast backward/forward through the current file.
- Press STOP to stop playback.
Accessing Recorded File Information: While in stop mode, press and hold MENU to display recorded file information such as, date ofrecording, time of recording, recording mode, and recordingquality.

Recording
- While in stop mode, press REC•PAUSE to start recording. The red recording indicator will illuminate. Recording time will be displayed once you begin recording.
- To pause recording, press REC•PAUSE once. The redrecording indicator will be flashing. Press again to resumerecording.
- To stop recording, press STOP.
AVR (Automatic Voice Recording): This feature allows the player to sense sound and to record only when you are speaking into the microphone. When dictation stops for about three seconds,recording will pause and then start again automatically when you resume dictation.
- Select AVR ON in the Setting menu. Refer to Settings section for instructions on how to select AVR ON.
- Press REC•PAUSE to enter AVR mode.
- Start dictation. Recording starts automatically.
- Press STOP to end AVR recording.
To adjust the sensitivity (Low/Middle/High) of the microphone, press - Volume + during AVR recording.
Notes:
- AVR works better for dictation applications than lecture or conference recordings as background noise can cause some false triggers.
- The first syllable or two may be lost when you start recordingbecause this ‘sound’ is used to turn on the AVR feature. It is a good practice to make some ‘sounds’ or say a short word to activate the AVR before you begin actual dictation.
Setting recording quality Definition: • LP (Long Play) – allows up to 1600 hours recording. • SP (Standard Play) – allows up to 280 hoursrecording. • HQ (High Quality) – allows up to 140 hours recording. Refer to Settings section for instructions on how to select recordingquality.
Setting recording mode Definition: • CONF (Conference) – Use in a more open area where recording source is far from the player. •DICT (Dictation) – Use when recording source is close to therecorder. Slide the Dict/Conf switch to select recording mode.
Note:
• You may slide the Dict/Conf switch during recording. However, you selection will only be effective starting from the next recording. • For conferences, to obtain optimum recording quality, place the recorderwith the microphone freely exposed to the sound source as close as convenient. A built-in automatic recording level control will set the optimum record level during manual recording. Avoid recordingnear unwanted noise sources, such as air conditioners or fans.

Deleting files
- Select the file to be deleted.
- While in stop mode, press ERASE.
- Press <</>> to select FILE(S) and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to select one of the deleting options: • Delete the current file (Current file name) • Delete all files in the current folder (ALL FILES).
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm deletion.

Bookmarks
To create bookmarks:
- During playback, press REC•PAUSE.
- Press <</>> to select BOOKMARK and press PLAY•PAUSE to create bookmark. You can create up to 29 bookmarks in a file. When the maximum limit is reached, NO MORE BOOKMARKS AVAILABLE will be shown.
To navigate bookmarks: During playback, press / to navigate to different bookmarks within the file.
To delete bookmarks:
- While in stop mode, press ERASE.
- Press <</>> to select BOOKMARK and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to select a bookmark or select ALL (to delete all bookmarks created in the current file).
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm delete.

Insert
To insert a new segment into the current file:
- During playback, press REC•PAUSE.
- Press <</>> to select INSERT and press PLAY•PAUSE to startrecording. The newly recorded segment will be inserted from this point.
- Press STOP to stop the recording of new segment.

Append
The append function (add to recording) provides an easy way to edit a file when you are recording a list (e.g. a grocery shopping list). This enables you to add items to the end of a file.
To append voice data to the end of a file:
- During playback, press REC•PAUSE.
- Press <</>> to select APPEND and press PLAY•PAUSE to startrecording. The recording will begin from the end of the currently selected file.
- Press STOP to stop the recording.

Formatting
To format the memory of the player:
- Select Format in the Settings menu. Refer to the Settings section for details.
- When Format is selected, ALL DATA WILL BE PERMANENTLY LOST will be shown.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm your selection and start the formatting.
Help:
- Formatting the internal memory may be required if internal memory has become corrupted.
- If the player is formatted by a computer, make sure you select FAT32 as the file system.
- Properly unmounting the player before disconnecting it greatly reduces the chances of memory errors. To unmount the device:
- Mac users, locate the RCA_DVR device in the finder, then Ctrl+click and select Eject "RCA_DVR".
- PC users, choose Safely Remove Hardware from the system tray, then choose to stop the USB Mass Storage Device.
- If power supplied from the battery fails suddenly (e.g. batteries are removed accidentally) during recording, the recoding in progress will be interrupted. The recorded file may also be corrupted and cannot be played back.

- While in stop mode, press MENU to access the Settings menu.
- Press <</>> to select Settings and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to highlight the desired item, then pressPLAY•PAUSE to select that item.
- Press <</>> to adjust the value, then press PLAY•PAUSE to save the setting.
- Press STOP to return to the main screen.

Accessing Date and Time menu:
- While in stop mode, press MENU to access the Settings menu.
- Press <</>> to select DATE+TIME and press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to highlight SET TIME, SET DATE or TIME FORMAT, then press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press <</>> to adjust the value, then press PLAY•PAUSE to confirm selection.
- Press PLAY•PAUSE to return to the main screen.
