Connecting the Acoustic Research AW771 Wireless Headphones
|
Powering the Transmitter
Connect the small, round plug from the transmitter AC power adapter (N) to the transmitter power input jack (J) and plug the other end of the transmitter AC power adapter (N) into any standard 120V AC wall outlet.
Note: There is no transmitter ON/OFF switch. The transmitter is designed to be left plugged in and powered at all times. If you do not intend to use the AW771 for an extended period of time, you may wish to unplug the transmitter AC power adapter.

Connecting to an Audio Source
Connecting to an A/V Receiver:
- Connect the included “Y” adapter cable (O) to the audio input cable (K) coming out of the transmitter.
- Connect the left (white) and right (red) audio plugs on the ”Y” adapter cable to the corresponding left and right audio outputs of your A/V receiver, amp or other audio source.
Connecting to a TV:
- Connect the included “Y” adapter cable (O) to the audio input cable (K) coming out of the transmitter.
- Connect the left (white) and right (red) audio plugs on the “Y” adapter cable to the corresponding left and right audio outputs on the TV.
Connecting to a Stereo or a Computer:
- Plug the audio input cable coming out of the transmitter into the headphone output of your stereo or the audio output jack on your computer. Use the included 1/4” headphone adapter (P) to convert the 3.5mm plug on the audio input cable to a 1/4” plug as needed.
Warning: This product is designed to work with line level outputs or headphone outputs only. DO NOT connect it directly to speaker outputs as it will permanently damage the transmitter.

Powering the Headphones
The AW771 headphones can be powered by the supplied 3 rechargeable AAA Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries (supplied) or any other NiCd or alkaline batteries.
Inserting the Batteries:
- Remove the battery compartment cover (B) by pushing up and out at the same time on the notch at the base of the cover.
- Insert batteries following polarity (“+” and “–”) as diagrammed inside the battery compartment.
Using Optional Alkaline Batteries: The AW771 headphones can also be powered by 3 AAA alkaline batteries (not included). You may experience slightly longer play time with alkaline batteries, but you will not be able to recharge them, as you can with the supplied NiMH or NiCd rechargeable batteries.
Charging Batteries:
Warning: The AW771 built-in charger will charge rechargeable NiMH (supplied) or NiCd batteries only. DO NOT attempt to charge any other batteries except those specified above.
-
Make sure that the headphones’ power/tuning control button (F) is OFF and the red power indicator LED is unlit.
- Place the headphones on the transmitter, ensuring that the charging contacts (C) on the left ear cup sit securely on the charging contacts on the transmitter base.
Notes:
- The included NiMH batteries can be charged at any time, without any adverse memory effect, whereas NiCd batteries must be fully discharged before they can be recharged in order to avoid a reduction in performance. For this reason we recommend continued use of the supplied NiMH. Over time, with repeated use, even Ni-MH batteries will eventually wear out. If, after a full charge, you notice a) dramatically decreased playing time, b) the power indicator light begins to dim quickly and/or c) static interference occurs within a short time of turning the headphones on, it may be time to replace the batteries.
- The charger will not overcharge the batteries if left to charge longer than shown above. However, if you do not intend to use the headphones for an extended period of time, it is recommended that you unplug the transmitter from the AC power outlet.
